Shearman Bowen and Co, a law firm specialising in defending individuals and companies subject to criminal investigation and proceedings, invites applications from candidates seeking a full time paralegal role. The position would suit a candidates who are seeking legal experience with a view to securing a training contract or who are awaiting acceptance by chambers for pupillage.
Key responsibilities
- Assist solicitors and partners in the preparation and management of criminal cases.
- Draft and review legal documents, correspondence, and witness statements.
- Liaise with clients, witnesses, police, and other parties
- Assist with billing, time recording, and Legal Aid documentation as required.
- Monitor and manage case deadlines, including court dates, police interviews, and procedural time limits.
- Conduct legal research and summarise case law or statutory requirements relevant to ongoing matters.
Requirements
- Law degree or equivalent legal qualification.
- Previous experience in a criminal law environment preferred but not essential.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in legal research and document management systems
