Rebecca von Blumenthal // Associate Solicitor
Rebecca has been with Shearman Bowen since November 2022, following a move from a highly regarded Legal 500 London criminal firm.
Rebecca is regularly instructed to represent clients accused of a wide range of offences including drug supply, fraud, assault, the possession or use of firearms and sexual misconduct. She frequently attends the police station to advise both adults and young people on a wide spectrum of offences and has developed a proactive approach to police station advice and representation to resolve matters at the earliest opportunity and without charge. This includes drafting detailed representations that cases should not be proceeded with.
Since qualifying as a solicitor in 2020, and obtaining her duty qualification in 2021, Rebecca has gained extensive experience as an advocate both in the Youth Court and the Magistrates Court. Her experience as an advocate provides her with invaluable practical knowledge and a strategic mindset that directly influences her approach to litigation in both the Magistrates Court and the Crown Court. She has a meticulous and robust approach to litigation, liaising closely with expert witnesses and counsel, which allows her to quickly identify weaknesses in the prosecution case and resolve matters swiftly and effectively.
During her training contract, Rebecca was seconded to a leading civil liberties firm working on Inquests and Actions Against the Police. Rebecca previously assisted a LexisNexis and Halsbury Law Exchange partnership, researching sentencing and treatment of female offenders within the criminal justice system to determine whether there is a principled case for reform.
Rebecca thrives on the intellectual challenge each case can bring and is considered to be an exceptionally dedicated and skilled litigator who is valued for her ability to build a rapport with her clients.
Rebecca is a member of the Committee of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors’ Association and Women in Criminal Law.
