Fraud: We are a member of the Specialist Fraud Panel. The Specialist Fraud Panel is an approved register of expert solicitors firms who are able to undertake publicly funded work in this area. We have acted in a large number of investigations by the Crown Prosecution Service, HM Revenue & Customs (Formerly Customs & Excise) and the DTI. We are a Member of the Specialist Fraud Panel and regularly prepare cases supervised by the Very High Costs Case Unit. We are regularly instructed in complex and serious matters. We have individual teams tailored to meet the requirements of this type of case which include – Fraud, MTIC Fraud, Large-Scale Drug Importation – Homicide - Sexual Offences – Fraud General.

Confiscation / Asset Forfeiture
Since 1986 the Government has increasingly been committed to seizing the proceeds of crime from criminals. This has cumulated in the passing into law of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
This Act, whilst strengthening the criminal confiscation powers, introduced new powers of civil recovery aimed at recovering the alleged proceeds of crime when no criminal proceedings have been brought or where they have been brought and failed.
Shearman Bowen has huge experience in this field. The team is headed by Rick Shearman and Mark Bowen who regularly represent clients in civil and criminal confiscation proceedings.
It is important for individuals and businesses to receive up to date advice on the increasing use of asset restraint by the authorities.
