Lorna joined Shearman Bowen as a consultant in 2009, and has worked on a wide range of criminal defence cases from terrorism to fraud, supply of drugs, human trafficking, murder, grevious bodily harm, assaults and internet pornography to robbery, burglary, theft and a range of more minor offences.
Lorna trained and worked at a “magic circle” firm before deciding on a career in criminal law. She worked for two years in north London and then spent three years in the State of California, USA working on a range of criminal defence cases from child endangerment to miscarriage of justice cases.
Lorna regularly represents clients both at the police station and at the Magistrates Court for sentencing, bail applications and procedural hearings. She also speaks fluent French.
Whatever the nature of the case, Lorna is committed to providing high quality advice to ensure the strongest possible defence.
Notable cases:
R v M; high profile alleged ricin poison conspiracy case. M was charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause public nuisance and spent 1.5 years in custody awaiting trial. The case against M was discontinued by the Crown on the first day of trial and M was cleared of any involvement.
R v A; the defence case of the fiancé of one of the 2005 London transport suicide bombers. Complicated case of assisting an offender involving a defendant with mental health issues.
R v Z: a large-scale human trafficking and passport fraud case.
R v S; a complex tax credit fraud case. S was the only one of 4 defendants to be acquitted.
R v P; a complex drugs conspiracy case where detailed analysis of telephone records was crucial in order to ensure the best possible outcome.
