Crime / Serious Crime

Shearman Bowen has, since its inception in 2001, defended clients in some of the most serious, difficult and high-profile criminal trials of the past ten years.

  • We represented Kenneth Regan, the lead defendant in the longest-running murder trial ever held at the Old Bailey, in 2003.
  • We represented a client in the case of R v Brian Wright & others, the UK’s biggest-ever cocaine importation, in 2006.
  • We represented John Worboys, the taxi driver described in the press as Britain’s most prolific sex attacker, at his trial in 2009.

In 2011, Shearman Bowen is firmly established in the upper ranks of firms dealing with serious crime and is recognised by its peers as such. For example, during 2010 we defended no less than five clients facing murder charges; none were convicted of a count of murder

Our having acted for the defence in the most serious cases, however, enables us to bring those skills and expertise to bear in any case, whether it be a trial in the Crown Court, a plea in the magistrates court, or a negotiation at the police station.
