Transfers of Legal Aid
We represent many clients who have decided, for whatever reason, to apply to transfer legal aid to us.
We also have a good track record of “troubleshooting” – we are prepared to take over conduct of a case at any stage, even at the last minute, to give our client the best possible chance in the case. We frequently intervene in cases in the months, weeks and sometimes days leading up to a trial – in the case of R v Lotts and others (Norwich Crown Court 2005) we took over the defence of a man charged with murder on the second day of his trial and still secured his acquittal.
Transfers of legal aid are a matter for the court to decide, and are only likely to be ordered if they fulfil the criteria set out in the regulations.
We do however have considerable experience of dealing with transfer applications in most courts in London and throughout the UK. We can advise you on the merits of your application, and make representations to the court on your behalf in appropriate cases.
