Legal Aid
Shearman Bowen & Co have had a firm commitment to legal aid since we were founded in 2001.
We have a contract with the Legal Services Commission (LSC) to provide legal advice and representation in criminal matters; this covers police stations, magistrates courts, the Crown Court and related areas such as judicial review. We are also founder members of the LSC’s “VHCC Panel” (which now includes the specialist fraud panel), one of a relatively small number of legal aid firms authorised to deal with the most complex cases.
We also have a proud record of campaigning against legal aid cuts that restrict access to justice for those least able to afford it.
As of June 2010, all legal aid for criminal cases is now means tested. We can help you with your application and advise whether you meet the criteria. If you do not, we can provide you with a realistic and competitive estimate of the costs of your case.
