London Bikeathon 26.06.11
As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations and to support Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, our intrepid team completed the 52-mile challenge of the annual London Bikeathon on Sunday 26th June (the hottest day of the year so far). Congratulations to the team of Ben Holden, Simon Hayes, Greg Foxsmith, Tim Huestis, Edgar Fernando and Rick Shearman. Acquittal in Old Bailey murder trial
Mark Bowen successfully defended 19 year-old Nathaniel Bailey on a charge of murder just before Christmas. Nathaniel was accused of the shooting of Ryan Bravo at Costcutter in Walworth Road in August 2008. He was acquitted by the jury following a successful submission of no case to answer. Read more
Sentence in £28m mortgage fraud
Shearman Bowen & Co acted for former mortgage broker Paul Butcher who faced charges relating to the 2008 collapse of “the Money Machine”, a franchise of the Money Centre. The allegations related to the fraudulent alteration of property valuations to secure increased mortgage offers, to the total value of some £28m. Read more
Suspended sentence for drugs supply
Ben Ticehurst succeeded in obtaining a suspended sentence for student Alexander Bull in a widely-reported case at Blackfriars Crown Court. Alexander had pleaded to offences of possession of class A drugs and possession of class B with intent to supply.
